A fun, relaxing and completely absorbing day for beginners, or more experienced students may use the day to hone specific techniques. Workshops are held in our studio pottery established in 1985 in our walled Victorian garden. Our potters are degree and post graduate designer makers who lecture in ceramics and clients have included numerous galleries including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Students are taken through all the basic techniques of throwing, turning, handling and decoration with one student to each working area with wheel. About 5 or 6 pots can be thrown during a day workshop and the best 4 can be finished and decorated by each student. These are subsequently carefully dried over a couple of weeks and bisque fired to 1000 degrees centigrade over 15 hours in our kilns. They are then glazed by the potters in your choice of the beautiful stoneware reactive colour glazes characteristic of Woodsetton pottery, making them dishwasher, oven and microwave proof. Students collect approximately a month later. We can arrange to post pots at cost.
Alternatively students can return for a to specially arranged half day or full day workshops to decorate and glaze their own work.
